Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd (BCML) is advancing its 'Bioyug on Wheels' initiative with a recent stop in Rajkot, Gujarat. This mobile campaign aims to promote circular economy principles and the adoption of bio-based innovations like PLA (polylactic acid) bioplastics. The event featured live demonstrations and product displays showcasing how compostable bioplastics derived from sugarcane can serve as sustainable alternatives to conventional plastics. A recent study highlighted that PLA microplastics break down safely in Indian soil within 180 days, unlike conventional plastics. Over 500 visitors, including students and sustainability enthusiasts, engaged with Bioyug's compostable products and learned about the environmental benefits of bio-based materials. The event was attended by officials from the Rajkot Municipal Corporation, indicating growing support for sustainable alternatives. Avantika Saraogi, Executive Director at BCML, expressed encouragement regarding the response, emphasizing the community's growing awareness of sustainable alternatives. She noted that PLA bioplastics offer an effective eco-friendly replacement for banned single-use plastic items, enabling sustainable choices without compromising functionality. The 'Bioyug On Wheels' initiative seeks to make discussions around bio-based innovation accessible and inspire collective action for a greener future.
